Gil Gilbert is an accomplished photographer, cameraman, and filmmaker. After an early career in still photography that included work for Vogue, Interview, and GQ magazines, he turned to film. He soon began work with Sony Music, where he produced numerous pieces for their talent roster including Yo-Yo Ma, Wynton Marsalis, Roger Waters, and Billy Joel. He also produced pieces documenting the making of Oscar winning film soundtracks Star Wars and Titanic. His recent work includes profiles of artists and luminaries such as Stephen Hannock, Chita Rivera, and Morrison Heckscher, curator of the renovated American wing at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Previously he worked for The Metropolitan Opera and was part of the team that produced the Peabody Award-winning series, ‘Live in HD’, live opera broadcast in selected movie theaters.
His documentaries include Bang, The Bert Berns Story, Misfire, The Rise and Fall of the Shooting Gallery, and Nico Muhly, Synthesized.
