Gil Gilbert is an accomplished photographer/filmmaker. After an early career in still photography, including a cover for Vogue, he turned to film. With Sony Music, Gil interviewed and produced pieces on artists Yo-Yo Ma, Wynton Marsalis, Roger Waters, and Billy Joel, as well as documenting the making of the StarWars andTitanic soundtracks. He has produced several profiles on (artist and) luminaries in the art field such as Stephen Hannock, Linda Ferber, and Morrison Heckscher, curator of the renovated American wing at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
For The Metropolitan Opera, he was part of the team that produced the Peabody Award-winning series, ‘Live in HD’, opera broadcast live to movie theaters.
His documentaries include Misfire, The Rise and Fall of the Shooting Gallery(,) about the emergence of independent filmmaking in the 90’s, and Nico Muhly, Synthesized(,) about the gifted contemporary composer.
Gil Gilbert Productions specializes in producing creative, tailored pieces for branding and promotion. It is a one-stop production house supervising filming, editing, and post production needs. Artemest just completed its second round of funding and won start up company of the year in Italy. The site now features over 400 artisans from Italy with growing sales and
presence in the world market. 30 artisan videos produced for the Tuscan group OMA were unveiled in the fall of 2017 in Florence.
BANG, the story of Bert Berns
Premiered at SXSW in 2016, and was shown at DOCNYC in 2017. The documentary was theatrically distributed and is now available on Apple iTunes.
